Qui se ressemble s'assemble

20 inches by 24 inches, collage, framed with salvaged barn wood

Created from bits of torn paper adhered over an acrylic under-painting on wood panel; finished with two coats of UV protective varnish and framed without glass in order to showcase the wonderful texture created from the many layers of thick and thin papers.

by Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson

Artist Commentary:

"The roosters were inspired by the fun I thought I would have, creating colorful tail feathers from discarded wallpaper books. Roosters offer such an array of color, and feathers off such wonderful 'torn paper' types of shapes, it was a marriage made in collage heaven!  With the cows, I have fun hiding nursery rhymes within the white areas that I build up from different sizes and styles of text from old book pages. My work is inspired by potential collage materials; the rooster pieces inspired the cows, the agricultural theme inspired the frame molding of old weathered barn wood, which are hand made in Kentucky."
